These are my Orphanage/Children's Home gameplay rules, you can find my general gameplay rules here: Gameplay Rules

Orphanage Lot
  • The orphanage can be built and upgraded using funds from the neighbourhood treasury.

  • Any items needed for the orphanage can be funded from the neighbourhood treasury or household funds.

  • The orphanage does not pay any taxes.

Live-In Caretaker
  • The caretaker lives on-site is paid £1600 per week (5 days at level 4 of the Education career, based on my reduced wages in game). They are paid on the first day of the round from the neighbourhood treasury. This money cannot be put in the caretaker's personal bank account and must stay in the household funds.

  • The caretaker is also paid a bonus of £50 per orphan per week on the first day of the round, this money can be deposited into their personal bank account or left in the household funds..

  • The live in caretaker cannot have any other job but can make money of their own from any hobbies they have (e.g. painting/writing books) and this money can be deposited in their personal bank account or left in the household funds.

  • The caretaker may have a live in partner. If they have children of their own they will need to move out and a new caretaker is to be found.

  • The caretaker (and their live in partner) cannot have been in prison, if they go to prison they will be terminated from their position as caretaker and a new one is to be found.

  • Butlers cannot be hired but the orphanage can hire other services such as maids, repairmen and gardeners using the household funds.

  • A babysitter must be called if the caretaker leaves the lot even if there are teenagers present to look after the younger orphans.

Residents (Orphans)

  • Residents of the orphanage can be orphan townies, children from un-wanted pregnancies, children given up by their family at any age or neglected children that have been removed from an exisiting household by the social worker. During this blog post these types or residents are all referred to as Orphans for simplicity.

  • Orphans must move out the orphanage at the point they age up to Adult.

  • If an orphan goes to college, they cannot return to the orphanage when they finish college.

  • Any orphan can be adopted into an exisiting family. They must be good friends with the Sim who wants to adopt them. The adopting Sim must have a job and pay £1000 to the orphanage at the time of adoption.

Additional Gameplay Notes

  • Orphans can only share bedrooms with the same sex.

  • Orphans can date anyone outside of the household, but romantic relationships between residents of the orphanage are forbidden (but they may happen if the caretaker doesn't notice!).

  • Orphans can get part time jobs (if they roll the want) and start their own bank accounts.

  • The orphanage has a curfew of 10pm for teenagers and 8pm for younger children. Orphans must be on the home lot at this time. The only exemption is if an Orphan has a part-time job and works after 10pm.

  • If an orphan wants to learn to drive they must pay for the lessons with their own funds.

  • If an orphan wants an electronic gadget (mobile phone, mp3 player, handheld game) they must pay for it with their own funds, unless it is a birthday present.

  • Orphans are subject to the same general Gameplay Rules I have for all other households e.g. doing homework/going to University.
